Time to sign up now for the class I'm teaching beginning July 9 online through UCLA X Writers Program where I've taught for 5 years. I love teaching with them, and this will be a fun class to hone your work. Get on board!
Yesterday, I mailed off 2 book contracts, one to Night Publishing, residing in England, for Collapsible Horizon, a short story collection, to come out soon, and the other to Make-Do Publishing, in Hong Kong, for different book, to come out in the Fall.
OK, well, it's been a long time since I posted here. I kept up well with all the magazine announcements, and my own publishing news for almost 2 years. During the last 3 years, I've been in intense pain from a back injury. I reached my pain tolerance recently, and shut down submissions, etc... I'm still catching up on some great accepted pieces, which needs to take longer than it did. I've come to the decision to try to see if there is some way to alleviate the pain and thus try to live rather than fade away, the constant inflammation worsened by working at the computer in the ridiculous positions I have to be in to do so.
Some great pieces have appeared at Exclusive Magazine. Please check them out. I can no longer list them in the blog, for now. Incredible things have happened with my own work as well. For a start, some of my stories were nominated for the Pushcart Prize by Metazen. More stories and an interview came out. The biggest is -- two new book contracts. So, I need to take a break, and work up to being able to do this, while continuing to teach my beloved students with all the passion I have. I need to try to get well, am trying acupuncture. My book, Lucid Membrane, is out now from Night Publishing, and available on Amazon. Only the color version really gives you the full book, as there are three color coded stories embedded in the rest of the text. When you buy it, you find the password to put into the website's Secret Womb.
ISMs Press now has my chapbook, The Cabinet of What You Don't See, which you can order for 5.50. It's hand made with beautiful paper and color, full color art cover, and includes a story the other stories are in included in (you'll have to see it to understand.) It's dark, surreal, expressionist, in the usual Sein und Werden style. In fact, if you order the current issue, my chapbook comes with it.
It has MILABs, reptilians, a lugubrious house, a woman from Sirius, little dolls with pins, and the drawer is slowly closing, which allows the stories within it to be read. StepChamber.com had a new creature. This conglomeration of wonders is the work of several of us in collective, making something a bit unnameable. Literary, visual, branching thing it is.
Want just the chapbook, for 5.50? Or want the current issue of Sein Und Werden, for 8.50, including the chapbook? In any case, check it out here!
Of the chapbook, author Alana Capria says, ‘ In Tantra Bensko’s The Cabinet of What You Don’t See, the dreamlike stories build upon one another slowly, as the cabinet drawers open to reveal the many surreal, mythical, and dangerous parts. Delicate owls exist in conjunction with reptilian things that invade our beings and little winged dolls prance across the page, ignorant of their sexuality. Bensko’s writing is methodical in its lyricism. Her stories read like poems, beautiful sentences woven together that churn like waves as dog bodies eat and vomit one another over and over again.‘ There is a group of us doing something called the Stepchamber creature, and we also have a blog. It's getting going to build up momentum for the creature, coming to you May 3rd. I started something I call survey fiction, and members answered it with their fiction. Two of those have been put up: Owen Kaelin's and Alana Capira's.
